On January 20, 2025, President Trump signed the Protecting the American People Against Invasion executive order. It directs the DHS to enforce the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) by ensuring foreign nationals register with the government and comply with the law. All foreign nationals 14 years and older who remain in the U.S. for 30 days or longer must register and be fingerprinted, unless exempt. Parents must ensure children under 14 are registered, and once they turn 14, they must re-register. Failure to comply can result in civil and criminal penalties, including fines and misdemeanor charges. The DHS is creating a new registration process for those who have not yet complied, making it clear that no foreign national can avoid their legal obligation. Please Note: Registration does not provide immigration status or employment authorization. If you have questions about your visa status or if you are an employer exploring immigration options, we are here to help. At the Law Office of Julia L. Stommes, we are committed to helping individuals and businesses navigate complex legal landscapes.
