3. Look for disciplinary records:  Check with the state bar for any history of disciplinary actions.  Each state’s bar association should have a public directory.
4. Check their online presence:  Legitimate attorneys typically have professional websites or profiles on platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
5. Consultation:  A real attorney will offer a formal consultation to discuss your case.
6. Watch for red flags:  Be wary of guaranteed outcomes or large upfront fees. 
7. Written agreement:  Ensure they provide a clear contract detailing fees and services.
